Caroline

Introducing Caroline from Galway. Caroline is a patient advocate and a special projects officer at Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (CFI). She is deeply passionate about advocacy and loves to connect with new families, offering them hope and guidance.

Caroline was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 13. Despite the challenges that come with her condition, Caroline tries not to let it hold her back. Instead, she embraces her condition and uses it as a motivation to live life to the fullest. She participates in triathlons, enjoys swimming, cycling, and jogging, and loves to travel. Recently, Caroline climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as part of the Highest Harp Concert team who broke the Guinness World Record for the highest altitude harp performance. The challenge raised funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

Throughout her journey, Caroline has always believed in the importance of not limiting oneself because of a condition. She encourages others with rare diseases to take opportunities, try new things, and not be held back by their condition. She hopes her story will inspire others with cystic fibrosis and rare diseases to strive for a positive outcome and live life to its full potential.

Caroline describes her experience of living with a rare disease as being stubborn (determined), self-aware, compliant, and unheard.
